If sudden elevation in Blood Pressure causes mental status
changes, chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, you might be dealing with a
hypertensive crisis and going to the ER is necessary. Lack of those associated symptoms usually
means that doctor-directed BP medications are indicated (often in context of an
office visit).
