Arrhythmia
SCD typically refers to a
sudden loss of effective contraction of the heart muscle and implies a
life-threatening arrhythmia. Usually this is VT or VF. It occurs
primarily in patients with a damaged heart (cardiomyopathy, postMI)
where there is scar tissue that alters normal electrical conduction. It
can also occur in patients w nl hearts (Brugada syndrome, ARVD, long
QT) which are rare.
