Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartridge-bone
junction in the rib cage. It leads to
palpable point tenderness that might be aggravated by chest wall manipulation
or deep breaths (when the chest cavity expands). It is an inflammatory process that responds
to anti-inflammatory medicines and reassurance.
It should be distinguished from such things as pulmonary embolism (which
is very dangerous) by a physician.
